Tanager Place Expressive Arts Outreach Project

 

Crayon Conversations is a unique collaboration with the Cedar Rapids Community Schools that provides children impacted by the floods at Harrison Elementary, Grant Elementary and Wilson Middle School the chance to use Expressive Arts as a means to cope and heal. 

 

Crayon Conversations will be led by Art Therapist, Julie Walton, Director of Expressive Arts at Tanager Place.  Expressive Arts has been an innovative part of treatment at Tanager Place for 33 years.  This program helps emotionally challenged children insight into feelings and struggles that are too threatening to face directly.  Expressive Arts builds self-esteem, self-awareness and aids in communication.  The program is supported solely by donations. 

 

Each fall Tanager Place hosts a fall fundraiser to raise the needed funds for this program.  Out of respect for those who are struggling at this time Tanager Place has postponed this fall fundraiser and has initiated this outreach program.
