The Intermediate Care Facility for the Mentally Retarded (ICF/MR) program is an 8-bed co-educational program developed to serve children and adolescents between the ages of 5 through 17. This program serves the needs of individuals with mild mental deficits, daily living activity deficits and behavior disorders who can benefit from active treatment. Individualized treatment programs are developed for each client by an interdisciplinary team and are based on current assessment and observation. Active treatment programming is tailored to improve and/or maintain skills and foster greater self-reliance and independence.
 

Guidelines used when considering appropriateness are as follows:
 

Age of referrals is 5 through 17

Clients should have a diagnosis of mild mental retardation

Clients should a full scale IQ of 55-75 and adaptive functioning in the mild mental retardation range

No recurring pattern of violent and/or criminal acting out

Substance abuse is not evident as the active primary problem

Suicidal behavior with a high potential for lethality is not present

No overt psychosis at the time of referral

If a referent has had psychotic episodes or behavior but is integrated at the time of referral, they will be considered for admission

An individual with limited physical abilities who could not be reasonably accommodated within the agency's existing facilities

Not a predatory perpetrator of sexual abuse

Due to the behavioral focus of this program, clients needing 24-hour nursing care will not be considered for placement

All medical issues will be reviewed on an individual basis
