Summer Fest 2014

The 24th annual Summer Fest took place on Saturday, June 7, at the Rockwell Collins Sports Complex. The free, outdoor festival offers families across the Corridor  interactive activities, crafts, inflatables, live entertainment, and mascot mania.

Fort the first time in 24 years, unsafe weather caused us to shut down Summer Fest soon after it started. It was a tough decision, but was the safest for families and volunteers.

Thank you to those who braved the weather! Please mark your calendars for our 25th Summer Fest on June 6, 2014!

Since it’s inception, this free family festival – made possible by generous sponsors – has raised more than $588,000 for Tanager Place programs specializing in mental and emotional services for children. Summer Fest celebrates Tanager Place’s mission to support and build strong and healthy families.

Tanager Place thanks our event sponsor General Mills and balloon sponsor Rockwell Collins for making this event possible.

During Summer Fest, children can create their very own cereal in the General Mills’ “Make Your Own Cereal” tent. With the support of UnityPoint Health St. Luke’s Hospitals, the first 1,000 kids will free bike helmets. Other activities include the Rev’ved Up 4 Tanager Kids Charity Car & Motorcycle Show, sponsored by Eddies Rod and Custom and Master Tool Mfg.; Video Games Etc. gaming area, Safety Town with help from 45 area businesses focused on interactive learning; and STEM activities. Audiences can enjoy special stage appearances by the Titans Dolls Dance Team, Cedar Rapids Spirits, magician Jackson Green, and music by Vibrations Pro Disc Jockeys.

“Summer Fest is a wonderful opportunity for us to partner with multiple organizations within the community and give back to families through a fun and memorable experience,” says Director of Community Relations Joan
