2014 Expressive Arts Gala

Supporting our Children

Tanager Place’s annual Expressive Arts Gala never ceases to bring inspiration to both recipients and supporters, and this year proved no different as Tanager Place celebrated its 6th annual Expressive Arts Gala at the DoubleTree.

In all, more than $82,000 was raised in ticket, sponsorship and scholarship funds in support of the Expressive Arts program, funded solely through community support.  Expressive arts allow children to explore devastating emotional or psychological issues that may be too threatening to face directly.

 ‘Seasons of Change’

Through a powerful and moving testimony, audience members heard the story of Aubrey*, who shared her experiences as a child at Tanager Place. Through her inspiring story, the voice of the children came alive like never before.

“Music was such a big part of my life before I came to Tanager Place. The Expressive Arts program allowed me to express a full version of myself, enabling me to heal through the arts, in ways that were deeply personal to me,” said Aubrey.

The Gift of Art

In a generous display of support, guests pledged more than $18,750 in scholarship support for children, ensuring they could continue to safely explore their thoughts, feelings, and emotions through the power of expressive art.

With the pledge of a scholarship, supporters were given an equally meaningful thank-you: coasters with seasonal images created by children in the Expressive Arts program as a personal testament to their newly discovered “voice.”

“We are blessed to be surrounded by such amazing advocates for our children,” says Tanager Place Director of Community Relations Joan Hackbarth. “The Expressive Arts program would not be possible without this community’s support, and we are honored to be a resource available to children and families in this area.”

Tanager Place would like to express gratitude to its Platinum Sponsors: Raining Rose and Matt and Red Rissi, and to its Gold Sponsors: Guaranty Bank & Trust, The Linge Foundation, and TrueNorth Companies, LC. Special thanks also to the Expressive Arts committee and the many other sponsors and guests who contributed to this successful event. Your support has made this program possible since 1975.
