As experts on their own lives, attendees will learn new perspectives on how to integrate the experiences of a child with their sense of identity in present time. Narrative therapy looks to empower individuals as the experts of their own life and children are no different. Through intentional efforts, play therapy can assist in supporting a child to take ownership of their personal narrative and communicate how their past may have shaped both their present and future.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Discuss the theory and use of narrative techniques in play therapy with children and families.
  2. Create story stones for use in play therapy.
  3. Discuss ways to use story stones in play therapy with children and families to assess world view and shift and expand narratives.
  4. Identify additional narrative play therapy interventions.
