Resistance in families comes in many shapes and sizes. No matter how it is presented, it makes the work of the helping professional extremely difficult. The aim of this training is to teach helping professionals about resistance of families in play therapy, their potential role in the resistance, as well as methods to combat the resistance of families. A family systems lens will be utilized to help trainees change the way they view resistance, while also providing the necessary skills to get past it. The ability to see resistance in a new light is guaranteed to change the work you do with families.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Trainees will identify resistance and its role in families in play therapy.
  2. Trainees will discuss basic systems knowledge through which they can view the resistance of families in play therapy.
  3. Trainees will use skills to conceptualize the resistance of families in play therapy for the purpose of formatting treatment strategies.
  4. Trainees will apply techniques to combat resistance of families in play therapy.
  5. Trainees will analyze different roles they may play in the resistance of families in play therapy.
  6. Trainees will discuss research surrounding the resistance of families in play therapy.
