A $1 million anonymous gift is opening more doors for the children of Tanager Place.
The gift has been placed in an endowment, which provides academic scholarships to help young people achieve their post-secondary education goals.
“This is an extraordinary opportunity for youth receiving assistance through Tanager Place to realize future goals. Whether it be the chance to enroll for collegiate courses, attend trade school or further their education at a community college, we are pleased to announce this scholarship program,” said Okpara Rice, CEO of Tanager Place.
Applications for the annual scholarships will be on the Tanager Place website beginning April 15, 2020. The first deadline for completed applications is May 15 and a selection committee will announce award recipients by May 25. The scholarships are available to youth who received six months or more of services from Tanager Place during the past two years.
“This is one of the ways I am paying it forward,” said the anonymous donor. “During my youth, when I needed support, people were there for me. So I’m proud to help the children of Tanager Place in this way. The program is a window of opportunity for a deserving young person, a chance to reach for and grasp long-term goals. And a program that will benefit students for years to come.”
