(Cedar Rapids, Iowa) – Tanager has received a grant from Variety – the Children’s Charity of Iowa to fund the creation of wellness spaces for children in its Psychiatric Medical Institute for Children (PMIC) residential program.
Tanager is a nonprofit organization serving Eastern Iowa, surrounding counties, and beyond, offering programs that focus on prevention, treatment, and outreach and serve over 4,000 children, teens, and young adults each year. Tanager’s mission is to provide services to children and families that inspire, empower, and heal.
The Variety grant will be used to develop a series of wellness spaces intentionally designed to strengthen both the physical and emotional well-being of the children we serve. These areas will include a workout and gym space that promotes healthy activity; a calming spa room to support regulation, sensory needs, and stress reduction; and a video game and recreational space that encourages healthy social interaction, teamwork, and play. Together, these environments will support creativity, resilience, and overall wellness for youth in our programs.
“This grant from Variety reflects a shared belief in the power of investing in children. The wellness spaces we’re creating will offer new opportunities for kids to grow, heal, and connect. We are incredibly thankful for Variety’s partnership and dedication to improving children’s lives.” –Okpara Rice, Tanager CEO.
